4. Links

Adding Links

There are several types of links that can be added to a page. Links can be internal linking to other pages on the site, external linking to other places on the Internet (URLs), E-mail addresses, or anchors that link information on the page to another spot on the page.  Links can be added from three places on the Fusion interface.

The first example is linking to an email address.  First the text has to be selected (highlighted), then click on the link button on the Text Properties box.  You can also create a link by clicking on the World icon with the chain link on it.  There is one located on the top toolbar and on the side toolbar.

An e-mail link is an external link.

Once you have clicked the link button or icon, the Links Properties box opens, the external link tab is selected, then from the URL drop down menu "mail-to" is selected.  In the next window, the email address is entered, then click "Link" at the bottom of the Link Properties window to save the link and it will close window and return to the page.

The next type of external link we will add is a link to a URL.  Follow the same procedure to create this link as for the email link except use the "http://" and type in the location of the URL (www.ehelp.com).  Click Link to save it.  The text "RoboHELP" on the page has had a link added to it.

Now we will take a look at an "Anchor" link.  An anchor places a link from one place on a page to another.  This saves time scrolling or searching for the information that the link references.

This procedure is different from adding an external link.  First you must place the blinking text cursor somewhere inside the word you want the link to go to.  Then select the Anchor tool for the side toolbar, a window will open and ask you to name the link, type a name for the link (Review Coordinator) and the anchor point will be placed in the word where the cursor was.

Then go to the word you want the anchor to link from and select it.  In the Link Properties box, choose the Internal Link, Current Page, and select the Anchor word the link will go to.  Click Link to save the new link.

You can see the link between the highlighted word and the anchor marker.

This is an Internal Link.  Select the text (Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in this example) that will link to another place on the web site, click the Link button on the Text Properties box, and then select the Internal page that the link will go to. In this example it links to the "SIGs" page.  Click the Link button to save the link.

The next link is a Smart Link.  A smart links to the next page up, the next page, the previous page, Home, etc.  This time choose the Smart Link from the Link Properties box.  Choose a link from the types, click link to save the page.

The final link type is a File link.  This would link to a downloadable file on the web site.
