Click’N Design 3D CD Labeling Software

Stomp Inc.

Maureen Shannon, NJPCUG

Click’N Design 3d CD Labeling Software is the latest label design software from Stomp Inc. Design custom labels for all your CD’s, Jewel Cases, Zip disks, floppies, video tapes, even mini CD’s.

System requirements include Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP, 32 MB of Ram, (64 MB recommended), 30 MB hard disk space (320 if you choose to install the clipart). The installation was very simple, insert the CD, point it to the drive where you want it to install, and follow the on screen setup instructions. It installed flawlessly causing no problems with my system.

I have worked with several types of labeling software packages. Some are a little more difficult to figure out using the trial and error method (not reading instructions) than others. This was very easy to work with. I had no problems working with it or figuring out how to use the software to design labels for my CD’s. It just a few minutes I had it installed and was creating and labeling my CD’s.

This package comes with just the included software. Labels and the label applicator are not part of this particular package although there was a special offer of a free labeler when this product was ordered. I already had labels from SureThing and from Stomp so I used both to test the product for the review. I prefer the Stomp label applicator to others I have because of its sturdiness and because it is very easy to use.

Click’N Design 3d supports most CD label templates, works on all printers, and can be used with most of the label stock that is available. I did find that the Sure Thing labels set up perfectly but the bottom one printed off center when I tried print two at a time. By not using the bottom label and creating the label on the top of the page only (switching the end that feeds into the printer for the second label) corrected this problem. There must be some on the Sure Thing page setup (the labels in the package) that is off because the view lines up correctly in the software. The Stomp Glossy labels that I had printed perfectly when I made two per page.

Features include:

3D text Engine with Texture Mapping

Quick Designer: Hundreds of Pre-made Designs

Dynamic Circular Text Engine

Over 5,000 Photos and Clipart

Photo Effects: Colorize, Mosaic, Oilify, & More

The 3D text Engine with texture mapping – put photo images on the text, set the bevel and extrusion levels for custom designs, control the materials color and lighting effects, and more.

Design labels using selections from the included images and clipart, gradients and shapes, and also import your own designs. It supports jpgs, bmps, tiffs, and more. Effects that can be used on images include colorize, emboss, mosaic, brightness, oilify, plus others.

Text can be changed to circular styles by clicking, typing, and turning with a toggle. Place the text on the top or bottom of the label. You can even add a barcode to the jewel case label for a more professional look. The 3D text interface is very easy to work with. The font, font style (bold, normal, italic, etc.), placement, shape, material, lighting, color, geometry (extrusion, bevel, and effect), and texture are all customizable. This is simple interface making the creation of 3D text very easy to do.

The Quick Designer has hundreds of pre-made designs to choose from. CD and jewel case themes can be coordinated by selecting layouts, backgrounds, color schemes and font schemes. This application has a very nice selection of layouts. Each can be customized by cycling through the selection tabs to change one or more elements and create your own unique style. The image to the left shows the "Sunny" layout. The background can be changed to an image or other color scheme but the layout style (placement of the other objects) can be left in the style shown. Changing the text also varies the style elements and adds to a more personalized look. I like the layout choices. They contain a nice mixture of shapes. Other software I have seen offers a lot of styles but no real flair or pleasing design elements. It seems they decided to offer large amounts of content and skimped on the quality of the designs. This software offers both a nice variety of styles and a large variety of selections to choose from.

If you are someone who likes the finished look a label gives a CD or wants the professional appearance that using custom labels adds to CD’s (and other items that can be labeled), this software will give you just what you are looking for. This also offers the user the opportunity to create CD labels that will match your personalized letterheads, business cards, and other office or business themes by importing your favorite designs into the CD image selections.

Click"N Design 3d sells for $19.95 for the CD version or $14.95 for the downloadable version. Visit Stomp’s web site, www.stompinc.com, to learn more about it and see their other great products.
