Disc Savers – Stomp, Inc.
Have you seen the thin jewel cases that are available lately? I first saw one
when I bought a piece of software, the CD was in this extremely thin jewel case.
I liked it a lot. I can fit two of them in a CD tower slot that would normally
hold only one standard jewel case. Yes, I know you’re thinking why don’t I
just buy a quad case and store 4 CD’s where I would have only been able to
keep one before. I have used the quad cases. I like them too…to an extent. I
find that they often have problems. The center portion of the case where the CD’s
snap onto to hold them in place frequently are either too large or too small.
The large ones make it difficult to get the CD attached and even harder to take
it off to use it. I have even cracked a CD putting on a holder that was too wide
in the center. The ones that are too small don’t hold the CD in place and it
rattles around in the case and falls out when it is opened. This happens way too
often. I bought 30 quad cases not too long ago and I would say at least one in
five has the problem with the center being too small. I either end up with a
quad case with only three CD’s because of this or have a CD fall out every
time I open a case that isn’t made right. I am much happier with this new thin
jewel cases. Each one has been perfect.
I have seen several types of the thin cases. Some are rectangular and made of
hard plastic, others round with a straight edge across the hinged end that are
softer plastic and are see through. The third type is what I have now, the Disc
Savers. Disc Savers are square shaped with rounded corners. What I like most
about them is the center section is a raised bump that fits through a center
opening in the top of the jewel case. You simply snap the opening in the top of
the case over the center section of the bottom to close it and push it down when
opening the case. There’s no segmented center to snap a CD onto when it’s
open. The CD fits perfectly over the raised, rounded center and when the case is
closed, it holds the CD snugly in place with no fear of it coming loose and
becoming damaged. I don’t have to worry about the center section being too
large or too small because the CD is just placed over it, not snapped into it.
There’s no struggling with the CD when the case is opened, trying to free it
from the bottom of the jewel case. The cases are soft plastic, available in
clear and several colors, and it’s very easy to see through them to identify
the CD inside of it. No more need for an extra label inside the top of the case
because you can see the CD through it and identify it easily. This also works
great if you are burning your own CD’s and labeling them. I use the cases that
come in colors and then I use the same color case for multi-sets of CDs. If you
are tired of the standard sized single jewel case, give these a try.
What I like most about these cases is the ease in with which you can store
them as well as take them with you. They don’t break like the hard plastic CD
jewel cases and because they are made in a single unit there’s no top hinge to
break off. The cases are also over a half an inch shorter because they don’t
have that hinged area. They are available in both 10 packs and 50 packs from the
Stomp web site.
